Two beers down. Someone in the office in this incredibly "dry" country called Dubai was kind. Should I speak my mind? It's always proven to be a huge mistake in the past! Ginger had a feast of Australian mutton this evening. He's been on cat food and behaved like a starving child when I placed his bowl full of good old red meat in front of him. Anyone who saw him gulping and chomping would have been tempted to report me to the SPCA at once. Which brings me to the horror of what's happening to Dubai dog owners. They've changed the rules again. There's a new list of "dangerous" dogs and if you own one, you absolutely can't have them in an apartment. If you're lucky enough to live in a villa, you can only have one such "dangerous" dog in the house. Pet owners are in a quandry and so am I. Why would they do this? Nobody's been hurt. The only people who are hurting, who've been bitten in the ass by this doggone law are the poor people who reported in to 7 days that they owned two of the "currently" termed "dangerous" dogs and didn't know what the hell they were supposed to do. Separating the dogs or giving one of them up would be cruel, unthinkable, mean and downright nasty for the families and the canines in question. It's positively heartbreaking and unfair. Perhaps I'm blogging when I'm drinking, but this is one issue that I will feel the same way about, sober or otherwise.

I used to blog while drunk, but always woke up at 3am, switched on the computer and postponed whatever I might have written while under the influence. And the next day I would almost always republish what I had suspended the night before.
:-D I published it waaay before I could even think of suspending it. At 3am I was fast asleep and not giving a damn about consequences. It's a bad habit that I'm getting used to. At least it's a blog and only the whole world can see it. What really kills me is shooting my mouth off when I'm with drinking with a smaller bunch of people, and they know my real name:-) Unfortunately, none of them have a "delete" button in their highly retentive brains.
thats terrible. i remember someone mentioning that singapore too has some weird rules about owning certain kinds of pets. in most rental apartments in the states, big dogs beyond a particular weight arent allowed. where would these people go if the apt complexes shut their doors?
but what you mention seem to be a state law which is akin to the singapore pet laws. seperating pets is unthinkable. i dont know what to say except wonder if someone will challenge it?
It is terrible. These rules are made arbidly, nobody gets an adequate explanation. So far, I haven't seen any follow ups in the papers, but I can bet they wouldn't care if someone challenged them. I do hope they realise that there can be better ways to prevent any danger, if indeed there is any danger. My take on the matter is that if a dog owner is irresponsible and careless enough to let an aggressive dog run free or not take adequate measures to ensure that their pets don't hurt anyone, then the dog owners should be punished or fined and not the dogs. This law does just the opposite. Because you're right, separating the dogs will hurt the dogs more than the owners. I do hope they come to their senses on this matter.
